Refugees
Montagnards fleeing religious violence in Vietnam are among the latest refugees to arrive in Charlotte. Here a father is reunited with his son at the Charlotte airport after years of separation. Photo by Nancy Pierce, Principal Exhibit Photographer.

A strong economy and a welcoming community make Charlotte a good destination for refugees — people forced to flee their homes because of war, famine, natural disaster, or political or religious persecution.
Since the 1970s, church and government agencies have resettled more than 10,000 refugees here from more than 25 different countries.
