Latinos are moving here because they've heard it's a nice community. It's a nice place to raise your family.
- Denise Coleman, Latin American Coalition
Until the 1990s, Latinos were rare in the Carolinas. Today the Southeast has the fastest-growing Latino population in the nation.
The Charlotte metro area ranked second in the U.S. in Latino growth, 2000 – 2005. More than 80,000 Latinos call Mecklenburg County home. One-third of them were born in the U.S.
