From which states?

Northern states led by New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania send many people to the Charlotte area.  Local nickname: “snowbirds.”

Florida also sends many newcomers, often Northerners who moved there, didn’t like the heat, and came up to the Carolinas.  Local nickname: “halfbacks.”
