Catawba Indian Nation

The Catawba Indian Nation is the only federally recognized Indian tribe in the state of South Carolina. The tribe's reservation is located in York County, a bedroom community for the booming Charlotte, NC area. The reservation is adjacent to the beautiful Catawba River, designated as a state scenic river in June 2008 by Governor Mark Sanford. The Catawba are proud of their past, and they continue to make pottery, sing, dance, drum, and share their heritage and culture. A variety of programs for visitors are offered at the cultural center.

Cotton Ginning Days

Cotton Ginning Days was started in 1988 to preserve the heritage of blue-collar workers in the South and provide patrons an experience of life as it was lived in the late 1800's and early 1900's around Gaston County. The focal point of this annual 3-day fall festival is a restored operational cotton gin on permanent exhibit in the Gaston County Park in Dallas. Today more than 30,000 people are drawn here to see more than 300 exhibits of antique agricultural and textile machinery from all over the Southeast.
